“It’s good to talk with people who can talk my language. I’m home alone all day. I can’t talk to my neighbour. I can’t speak her language.” Staff at LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) told us, “this was not seen as a high needs area. But this is the second highest area for newcomers to Canada. Persian, Chinese come here when the first come.” One young Farsi speaking volunteer at the garden said, “you have to adapt to different cultures. Try to translate, communicate that you don’t have the same language. You have to understand what they want from you and then what the understand from you.”
