“Oh my god, it was a hot mess for a while! I think for a while sometimes people didn’t understand that we were a non-profit and that the government gave us money and that’s what our salaries we’re based on. I went on the board and a month later the staff filed to become a union. But it wasn’t up to us to give them more money. We had to ask the government for money. So there was a lot of tension between staff and the board. Because it was a member-driven organization there were often tensions there. I think some members had tensions with the staff because they thought the staff didn’t get it.”
